Wearable technology: a Multi-Billion dollar industry?

Wearable technology is all set to turn out as a multi-billion dollar industry by the end of the decade. Wearable technology is hitting an all time high, illustrated by a new advertisement campaign from Samsung, which employs Captain Kirk, and Dick Tracy to introduce the new Galaxy Gear smart-watch. Other tech giants like LG, Apple and Qualcomm are next on the list to devise their own wearable gadgets. As we all know, Sony is already out with its Smart-watch and lately announced Smart-watch 2.

Even more recently Google allured the attention with Google Glass, eye-wear that offers the power of a computer by connecting to your Smartphone and displaying required info on the screen hovering above one eye. In case, this sounds too much like James Bond for mass appeal, a new company “AugMedix” has the only mission of exploring what Google Glass can do for doctors – in & out of the operation room.
But hey, wearable technology is a lot more than just Smart-watches.

Future of Wearable Technology
Technology is not a distraction anymore, it is essential and intuitive
A study done by Juniper Research predicts smart wearable devices to be valued as $485 billion by 2018. In the relatively such a small history of technology, it is tough to imagine a market more endemic with possibility. Why? Because sky is no longer the limit
The technology has a very strong potential to improve our surroundings, health and altogether change the way we interact with one another. The goal of so called “wearable technology” is to boost your awareness on things, and not get in the way of social interactions.
Consider the History….

Watches were originally at the top of towers or walls, but over time, they become smaller and people started them carrying in their pockets, and that was how the wristwatch was born. Wrist watches provide you with awareness of passing of time, without disturbing social interactions at all. Likewise, Google Glass is meant to enhance and annotate your world without disrupting your social experience.
Trivia – Thad Starner was one of the men experimenting with wearable technology. He went to develop Google Glass.
However, wearable tech has a great potential to be worn a second skin. Currently wearable tech is embedded into something, but in the near future the fabric itself would be smart. Just imagine about a piece of cloth that you would not need to wash and one that could change hues and shapes.

Future and Impact of Wearable Technology
Let us know the impact of wearable technology on the following sectors:
Tech Start Up Community
Wearable technology will succor the tech start-up community save a lot of time. Whether it is Google Glass or a smart-watch, the gizmos will facilitate tech start-ups to function more cost-efficiently.
As wearable technology becomes more popular, people who used to have their heads down looking a computer will have their heads up while using the latest gear. The tech start-up community will become more abreast of fashion updates. They will understand the physical requirements of their customers to make products that fit.
In the Sports Field
In a gamut ways, this booming sector has already begun gigantically influencing the sports arena. Its impact on the sports industry can be ascertained at all levels; from youth to collegiate; from amateur and professional and is starting to strongly change the landscape of sports. Moreover, from the assessment of an athletes’ performance, to the ways in which coaches mentor their respective teams, the role of wearable technology has became more defined.
As wearable gadgets and gizmos have become more prominent in the technological playing field, their influence on sports will persist to grow exponentially.
Health Industry:
Wearable tech has myriad implications for health. Fitness trackers such as Amiigo are loaded with sensors and intended to aid you in taking care of your health. By being able to measure and monitor your health and fitness levels, you can look at the numbers easily to see the current state of your body.
For instance, the Zeo handband helps you comprehend how well you are snoozing. The handband helped Steven Dean of G51 Studio realize that he was losing his 2 hours of ZZZ per night on an average.

Education Sector:
With wearable technology, for example Google Glass, both teachers and students can display information on a Smartphone-like hands free format while interacting with the web through natural language voice commands. With infinite possibilities as its virtual fingertips, education sector can create closer working relationships with pupil and facilitate them to be more involved with their learning experience.

Our planet is already composed of humans and computers interacting with each other all the time. So, now wearable technology is the next logical step.
